THE WORD ON THE STREET IS "DAAAANG!"

Smashburger Brings $5 Burger to Dillon

DILLON —Smashburger, a retro-style burger joint known for yummy $5 burgers, opens on Friday, April 17. It’s located in the same building as Qdoba, near the Dillon City Market.

Headquartered in Denver, Smashburger is a “fast and casual” restaurant that aims to expand significantly across the nation in coming years. Dillon’s Smashburger is the company’s 10th Colorado location and its 12th location nationwide.

“Diners in Colorado’s mountain towns tend to have to settle for ordinary affordable fare or very high-end fine dining,” said Scott Crane, president of Smashburger. “There are not a lot of options in between, so Smashburger will definitely fill an unmet market with the best $5 burger out there.”

According to media spokeswoman Grace Markley, approximately 110 people applied for jobs at Smashburger in Dillon. “We hired about 30 from that pool,” Markley said.

A private VIP event celebrating Smashburger in Summit County is set for Thursday, April 16. “It is a very fun night!” Markley said. “We just opened in Colorado Springs and more than 300 (people) attended.”

The still-empty Walgreens building on Dillon Ridge Road is tentatively set to open in June. Tenant spaces are still available in Qdoba’s building. Developers and the town are working to get them leased.
