Not much is more American than a cold beer and a hot, fresh cheeseburger. A Denver-based fast-casual restaurant franchise is looking to bring a new take on the old classics to the Dayton area.
Smashburger Master LLC has signed a deal with a local franchisee group to open a dozen locations between Dayton and Cincinnati. The first location, scheduled to open in late September at The Shoppes at 725, will be the first Smashburger eatery in Ohio.
Denver-based Smashburger, a unit of private equity firm Consumer Capital Partners, has been expanding rapidly since it was founded in 2006 by adding franchisees, such as West Chester-based Rodenkirch Management Group LLC, which is handling the area restaurants.
Amy Kessling and her partner Tom Rodenkirch have more than 40 years of restaurant experience between them. In addition to the first location, which will employ about 30 people, Kessling said they are looking near the University of Dayton and the West Chester area for their next locations.
