Newly-Opened Smashburger to Donate Proceeds to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah

One Dollar from Each Beehive Smashburger Sold Will Go Toward Funding Wishes of Children with Life-threatening Illnesses

SALT LAKE CITY– Smashburger lovers throughout the Salt Lake valley can help grant wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses by purchasing a Beehive Smashburger or Beehive Smashchicken after 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, and all day Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009.

“Better burger” restaurant Smashburger is celebrating the opening of its first two locations—3500 South and 2700 West in West Valley City, as well as 1000 East and 2100 South in Sugar House—by donating $1 from each Beehive Smashburger or Beehive Smashchicken sold to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah. Smashburger’s West Valley location opened Wednesday, Aug. 12, while the Sugar House location will open Wednesday, Aug. 19.

The Beehive Smashburger and Beehive Smashchicken are Utah-exclusive menu items created specifically for the market. The Beehive Smashburger features a one-third or half-pound 100 percent Angus beef smashed, seared and seasoned on a hot grill, topped with honey BBQ sauce, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and haystack onions on a butter toasted artisan egg bun.

“We’re excited about our partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Utah and thrilled to be in the Beehive State,” said Smashburger Founder Tom Ryan. “We recognize the good work the organization is spearheading and the hope and optimism they instill in the lives of critically ill children and their families.”

The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is to grant the wishes of Utah children between the ages of two and 17 years old who have been diagnosed with life-threatening conditions. Last year, 140 wishes were granted to Utah children. A wish is a child’s personal, heartfelt answer to the question: “If you could go anywhere, meet anyone, have or be or experience anything, what would you choose? What would you do?”

Along with its smashed, seared and seasoned burgers, Smashburger’s menu provides something for everyone. Patrons can order a variety of delicious Smashchicken sandwiches, Smashdogs and Smashsalads, with sides like veggie frites and rosemary and garlic-seasoned Smashfries. Burger lovers can also enjoy Häagen-Dazs shakes and root beer floats with their meal.
