THE WORD ON THE STREET IS "DAAAANG!"

Smashburger Smashes the Competition

by Order Up! Blog

I am not a big fan of fast food, but every now and then I indulge on the fatty, not-so-good for you, food that just tastes great. I’m not talking about McDonald’s, Wendy’s or Burger King where you get over-processed crap, I’m talking about a real burger place where the meat actually taste like beef.

The place I like going to is SmashBurger. I place it in the category of fast food, but it can easily be considered a higher quality burger.

The other night, Heather Skold and I went to the new SmashBurger on North Nevada Avenue to grab a quick bite during our lunch break.
The minute I walked through the doors, I could smell the hamburger cooking on the grill.

I don’t even know how to describe the smell of this magnificent burger getting cooked, hitting the hot griddle and then smashed into a patty.

My stomach rumbling, sending a signal to my brain yelling “ HURRY UP! ORDER! I’M HUNGRY!” I couldn’t wait long enough to place my order.

I did let Skold order first; I am a gentleman. But in the back of my mind all I could think of was… hurry up! HURRY UP! WHY ARE YOU TAKING SO LONG TO ORDER SKOLD?

SmashBurger, a Colorado based company, got its start in Denver. I’ve met one of the guys who started it, and his philosophy is just keeping it simple.
I ordered the classic Smashburger; it has American cheese, crisp lettuce, fresh sliced tomatoes, red onions, pickles all served on a fresh baked egg bun. Add some ketchup and smash sauce and you got one burger that is enough to satisfy your craving, but in the back of your mind, you want to go back and order one more.

We got our orders pretty quickly. I opted to pass on the fries, but they do have good spuds.

Sprinkled with garlic, rosemary and some added herbs; it gives McDonald’s fries a run for its money.
This burger takes two hands to hold. It’s stacked high and you gotta open wide to take that first bite. I don’t know what spices they use on the burger, but I don’t care. I just want to get to the next bite and the next bite…. (think of me as Homer Simpson with his mouth open and drool coming out the side of my mouth)
The classic is the best fast food burger hamburger: warm and cooked perfectly.  The tomatoes, lettuce and crispy pickle still ice cold, it’s the perfect combination of hot and cold.
Oh, you are in burger heaven! Just writing this now makes me think of going out and getting another one tonight.

I have had others. Culvers is good, Cy’s Drive-in off Uhinta is wonderful… but for me, it’s Smashburger all the way.
