Popular burger joint to debut drive-thru in Houston

Houston’s 19th Smashburger location will open later this month with a new convenient feature.

Mid-Wicket Enterprises, a Houston-based franchisee and development partner of the Denver-based burger chain, announced that the new storefront in the Copperfield subdivision of northwest Houston will feature a drive-thru option. It will open Dec. 16.

The new 2,775-square-foot drive-thru and dine-in location, at 8552 Highway 6, will be the chain’s first with the feature in Texas and second in the U.S. The chain plans to open others with drive-thrus in 2016, according to a statement.

“We want our guests to have more access to Smashburger by creating an additional dining occasion for greater convenience for busy people,” Scott Crane, president and CEO of Smashburger, said in a statement. “The density of the trade area and the ideal demographics combined with the site configuration was an ideal fit for the market’s first drive-thru restaurant, and we look forward to exploring additional drive-thru opportunities in markets as the right real estate becomes available.”

The drive-thrus will feature the same menus as other Houston locations.

Smahsburger is also slated to expand into Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport late this year as a part of the company’s plan to expand into three new U.S. airports.

Back in 2013, Smashburger was the youngest restaurant ever to hit 200 locations. The chain has been expanding in Houston, and Mid-Wicket President Indy Gill said in 2013 he could see “Houston as a 40-store market.”
