Smashburger is the Best Burger in Dallas

A good friend of mind Greg Finch @nodebtu invited me to the Sneak Peak of Smashburger’s grand opening in Addison, TX Tuesday night. As a burger lover and carnivore, I immediately decided to hit the internet to see what fans had to say. What was more surprising was how well the company was leveraging social media and video to promote and showcase their grand openings. Needless to say I showed up with high expectations.

When I arrived at 6pm the place was full with about 10 folks in line and all the tables occupied. Because it was an invite only event, we were first asked to check-in and immediately I was introduced to the owner of the @smashburgerDTX Twitter account. The corporate headquarters is leveraging an array of agencies to promote each new location and have done a good job staffing the event as well. There were plenty of folks on hand to help out.

As I stood staring at the menu debating between the All American Smashburger and Lonestar Smashburger, I was encouraged to order both since they were gratis. With a slight twist of my arm, I ordered both and the Smashfries featuring rosemary. I opted just for a fountain drink although they did serve cold beer and wine. Like a kid in a candy store, I took my number and found a booth over near the exit. Numerous folks stopped by to chat with us and Greg, who knew a few of the marketers.

I was tweeting (lifestreaming) during the event and captured these pics on my iPhone. I was fairly excited to be the first to create this spot for Foursquare, Brightkite and Gowalla. For my waistline’s sake, I hope I don’t attain mayorship on Foursquare for this venue. Although, I do know I will be bringing the family in very soon.

After filling up my drink with half Coke Zero and Cherry coke to balance out the two burgers and fries I was going to inhale, I sat back down just to take in the crowd. For those of you who know me, I do enjoy crowds and networking. It’s what brings me to life. Almost like a wind up Jack in the Box.  Fortunately, my first Classic Smashburger with Applewood Smoked Bacon arrived with my Smashfries. At first, I was saying to myself this isn’t the largest burger I have seen but it definitely looks appealing. Within about 5 seconds I took this shot and took my first bite. It was a rush of flavor. The meat was extremely moist and tender. The technique used to cook and prepare the burger is what provides this intense flavor.

Now the Lonestar Smashburger was created just for TX. I’ve never been a big fan of chili on my burger, but I decided to give this a try. First, what was most surprising was that they used fresh cut jalopeno’s. Most places serve pickeled or canned jalopenos with no real kick. The chili was fine but not being a connisseur I wasn’t really paying attention. It was outstanding though and I didn’t even bother to eat the top bun.

Sadly, I ate both burgers having only intending to take a few bites of each. But they were really delicious. I also had high expectations for the Smashfries as I am a big fan of Nordstrom Cafe’s fries with the aioli dipping sauce. Sad to say, I was underwhelmed with the fries. I expected more flavor. I think they needed more salt personally. However, the sweet potato fries Greg ordered were very good.

Dare I say it? Yes, I will. This is the best burger I have had in Dallas. What’s even more impressive are the prices. For the outstanding branding and buzz they have created, they will do well in this market. The good thing is there are plans for 30 locations in Dallas and 45 in Ft. Worth so everyone will soon be enjoying these in their neck of the woods.

The Grand Opening is Wednesday November the 18th so I encourage you to check it out and let me know your thoughts.

One more thing, don’t forget the bacon.
