Business is “fantastic” at Golden Valley’s newest restaurant, according to general manager Woody Leindecker.

Smashburger opened at the northwest corner of Highway 55 and Winnetka Avenue North on Tuesday, June 23. The restaurant has seating for 85 people, including a fenced outdoor patio.

“The location has been fantastic,” Leindecker said. “The line is out the door when we open in the morning.”

He said the burgers stand out because they’re made from 80/20 certified black Angus beef that is smashed for 10 seconds on a 400-degree grill. Special Smashburger seasoning – which includes 100 percent real cheese – comes next, and then the burgers are served on an egg bun that’s “unlike anyone else’s,” Leindecker said.

One of the customer favorites, he said, is smashfries: French fries tossed with olive oil, rosemary, garlic and thyme.

Another customer favorite is the Twin Cities Smashburger, which features layers of sharp melted cheddar bar cheese, Swiss cheese and garlic grilled onions, served with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on an onion bun.

Haystack onions, thinly-sliced and crispy, are served with dipping sauce. And veggie frites feature flash-fried asparagus spears, carrot sticks and green beans.
