Hackensack, N.J. (8/2/10)—Smashburger, a fast-casual “better burger” restaurant, will open its second New Jersey location on Wednesday, August 18, 2010. The restaurant will open in “The Shops at Riverside” in Hackensack and continue Smashburger’s mission to become the Garden State’s favorite place for burgers (Montclair is home to the first NJ Smashburger.) New Jerseyans can look forward to 25-30 more Smashburgers opening over the next few years.

New Jersey’s Smashburger restaurants feature a regional menu created with local flavors and tastes in mind. The menu includes:
• The New Jersey Smashburger, featuring Applewood smoked bacon, blue cheese crumbles, grilled onions, haystack onions, lettuce, tomato and mayo, served on an onion bun.

• Smashdogs, made with Newark’s famous “Best’s” brand hot dogs, available in two regional versions: the Jersey Dog features sauerkraut, grilled onions and brown mustard; and the Italian Dog includes peppers, potatoes and onions.

• The Taylor Ham®, Egg and Cheese Smashburger, featuring Taylor Ham, fried egg, American cheese, haystack onions and ketchup on an egg bun.

• The Oreo Smashshake, made with Häagen Dazs ice cream and Oreo pieces blended together.

Named for the cooking method used by the restaurant to create the perfect burger, Smashburgers are a one-third or half-pound ball of 100%—fresh, not frozen—Certified Angus Beef smashed on a flat grill to sear in the juicy flavor. To further the “better burger” experience, Smashburgers are served on a toasted artisan bun and topped with a selection of flavorful cheeses, the freshest produce and top-quality condiments.

Smashburger is known for its savory burgers, but the restaurant also serves up delicious crispy or grilled Smashchicken sandwiches, Smashdogs and Smashsalads, with sides like veggie frites and rosemary and garlic–seasoned Smashfries. Burger lovers can pair their meals with Häagen Dazs shakes and root beer floats.

“Smashburger is looking forward to expanding our ‘better burger’ concept in New Jersey with our new location at The Shops at Riverside,” says Smashburger Founder Tom Ryan. “We are excited for Smashburger to quickly become Bergen County’s favorite place for burgers.”
“New Jersey has fully embraced Smashburger – there’s been a demand to open more restaurants in the area,” says Scott Gillman, CEO of Mascott Corporation. “We’re looking forward to serving up great-tasting burgers with top-notch service to the Hackensack area —only a few miles from the George Washington Bridge.”
