Smashburger, Smashingly Good Meat Candy

by: Houston Restaurant ExaminerJeannette Golubovic

Smashburger has taken Houston by storm and has recently introduced new mouthwatering items to its amazing menu. Featuring beef and chicken items, patrons are confronted with a variety of juicy choices on how to assemble the made to order meal. Add ons include smoked bacon, beef chili, fried eggs, and even guacamole and haystack onions. A variety of unique sides include smashfries, made with rosemary, garlic, and olive oil, or even veggie frites, flash-fried asparagus spears, carrot sticks, and green beans. For a kick, try the fried pickles.

The quality of the burgers start with certified Angus beef that is fresh and never frozen, which are formed into ½ and 1/3 pound burger balls at the restaurant. The cooks “smash” the balls on a flat top grill using their special burger smasher. The combination of the smash burger, the restaurant’s signature seasoning blend, and high temperatures result in a caramelized crust to create what is called “meat candy.” There are three artisan bun flavors available, including egg, multi-grain and chipotle – all butter toasted to provide a perfect frame for the burgers. In addition to burgers and chicken sandwiches, smashdogs and signature salads are also available to complete the savory menu.

Pure Haagen Dazs malts and floats can be served to compliment the meal. For those looking for better spirits, frosty mugs of bottled beer and wine are also available.

The Denver, Colorado-based Smashburger is a fast-casual restaurant designed to be every city’s favorite burger place. The company has so far sold franchise agreements that will total more than 275 locations over the next five years. Smashburger was named a 2009 Hot Concepts!
