Smashburger, the Denver-based “Better Burger” concept, today announced that Jollibee Foods Corporation (PSE: JFC), Asia’s largest food service company, has agreed to acquire an additional 45 percent of the Smashburger brand for $100M USD, bringing JFC ownership stake to 85 percent.
Denver-based Smashburger has ramped up its franchising efforts with plans to enter new markets in Alaska, California and Texas, the burger restaurant chain announced Tuesday.
Smashburger inked agreements with three franchise operators to open a combined 15 restaurants in Alaska, including Anchorage; California, including San Jose and Monterey Bay; and Texas in Colin County, officials said.
Houston’s 19th Smashburgerlocation will open later this month with a new convenient feature.
Mid-Wicket Enterprises, a Houston-based franchisee and development partner of the Denver-based burger chain, announced that the new storefront in the Copperfield subdivision of northwest Houston will feature a drive-thru option. It will open Dec. 16.
